Replacing the fences of south Wilmington's established neighborhoods
Around Monkey Junction, many fences went up with the houses in the 1980s and 1990s. A lot of them are due.
Monkey Junction is the crossroads where College Road meets Carolina Beach Road on the south side of Wilmington, surrounded by neighborhoods built mostly from the 1980s onward. Much of our work here is replacement: a wood privacy fence that has been patched for years, posts rotting at the ground line, a gate that has not latched since the last storm.
Replacing a fence is a good moment to fix what was wrong with the old one. That might mean moving it back onto the true property line, swapping a solid fence on an exposed corner for shadow box, going from pine to vinyl to stop the staining, or adding a wider gate for a trailer. We price removal of the old fence as its own line, including breaking out old concrete footings where we can, so the new posts go into clean holes.
The soil here is sandy and drains well on the higher ground, but the low spots toward the creeks and ponds hold water after heavy rain. Posts in those spots get deeper footings.
