Fence questions, answered briefly

The questions people ask us most, from estimates and timing to beach fences, slopes and storm damage.

Are estimates really free?

Yes. An estimator comes to the property, measures the fence line and leaves a written, itemized price. There is no charge and no obligation.

How soon can a fence be installed?

It depends on the material and the season. Common pine and chain link materials are usually available quickly; some vinyl colors and aluminum styles are ordered in. The estimate gives a realistic start window.

Do I need to be home for the estimate?

It helps, so you can show us where you want the fence and any gates. If you cannot be, we can measure and send the estimate with a drawing.

Who builds the fence?

Insured local fence crews we work with. The referral disclosure explains how that arrangement works.

Is there a state fence licence in North Carolina?

Not for residential fence work below the general contractor threshold. Ask any installer for proof of liability insurance.

What is the most popular fence around Wilmington?

Six-foot pressure-treated pine privacy, followed by white vinyl privacy in the newer neighborhoods and black aluminum on water and golf lots.

Which fence is best near the beach?

Aluminum and vinyl with coated or stainless hardware. Wood works with sealing and good fasteners. Open designs carry less wind.

Do you set posts in concrete?

Yes, for wood, vinyl and aluminum posts, sized for the sandy soil, with gate and corner posts deeper and heavier.

Do you call 811 before digging?

We request a utility locate before every installation so buried lines are marked before the auger goes in. Private lines such as sprinkler pipes and low-voltage lighting are not marked by utilities, so please show us where yours run.

Can you install on a slope?

Yes. Fences are stepped down in level sections or racked to follow gentle slopes, depending on the material.

What if my HOA has to approve it?

Bring the design standards to the estimate. We price an approved style and give you the drawing and product sheet to submit.

Do you remove the old fence?

If you want us to. Removal and haul-off is priced as a separate line on the estimate.

How do I pay?

Usually a material deposit on signing and the balance on completion, as written on the estimate. Financing is available on larger projects.

What about storm damage?

Call and tell us what is down. We secure yards with pools or pets first, then rebuild. We provide an itemized estimate and photos for your insurer.
